Girl Doc Survival Guide
Young doctors are increasingly in ‘survival’ mode.
Far from flourishing, the relentless pressure of working in medicine means that ‘balance’ is harder than ever to achieve.
On the Girl Doc Survival Guide, Yale professor and dermatologist Dr Christine J Ko sits down with doctors, psychologists and mental health experts to dig into the real challenges and rewards of life in medicine.
From dealing with daily stressors and burnout to designing a career that doesn’t sacrifice your personal life, this podcast is all about giving you the tools to not just survive...
But to be present in the journey.

Christine Ko: [00:00:00] Welcome back to The Girl Doc Survival Guide. Happy New Year's Eve 2026! I'm a little late in releasing this episode because I've been traveling and spending time with family. I hope that you continue to listen to The Girl Doc Survival Guide. We're gonna continue to talk about work-life balance, physician wellbeing, burnout, practical tools for resilience and self-care; and continue to interview experts in dermatology, dermatopathology, as well as in other fields to talk about compassion and empathy in healthcare, both compassion for ourselves as well as for our patients; and career development, identity, and other emotional experiences like grief, burnout, and joy. We'll also keep talking about the culture of medicine and difficult concepts like overdiagnosis, overcalling, cognitive bias, and [00:01:00] fostering the types of environments that we want to be in.
Next week there'll be a conversation with Dr. Oksana Babenko, and we'll be talking about preventing burnout in terms of how exercise and mindset can help. And then the following week it will be about decoding decisions based on information with eye tracking with Dr. Bulat Ibragimov.
Thanks for tuning in and happy holidays to everyone.
